Farmer's Crop

The second cache for the evening was actually our third choice. Choice number two was thick with muggles so we headed back to the car and on to this spot. The sky was darkening by now and we knew we had to find the cache quickly.

This cache is located near South Bend's famed Farmer's Market. The first thing I noticed was unrelated to the cache. A lovely stone ornament constructed by the WPA has either been damaged by someone or is simply falling apart.

I love history and it's preservation means so much. I'm still amazed when I'm speaking to people and they don't know about the WPA or how so many parks in South Bend and Mishawaka were adorned with these stone walls, stairways, and ornaments.

This caches was hidden in a spot that made my poor husband's skin crawl. He told me three times he was going to get it out. I told him each time that I was willing. Of course, he could be bested by his wife. What had brave Ted worried? There might be spiders in the hiding spot with the box! Finally the box was recovered, signed and replaced. After we returned to our car about 4 people came out of nowhere to walk right by the spot we had just left. What a close call.

We had a fun day even if we only had time for two caches.
